MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Saturday 20 December 2003
Lots of new POKEs, some minor updates, some maps and a solution.
- Corrected entry for Death Star Battle which was wrongly listed
as just Death Star (oops!).
- Updated the POKEs for Dan Dare 1: Pilot of the Future. Viktor Drozd
had emailed to say they didn't work. After some investigating, I found
that they do actually work - but ONLY for the Ricochet re-release, which
appears to have been updated to work on the 128K without having to use
48K mode, hence the addresses are different. Speaking of Viktor...
- Viktor Drozd has been a busy chap, and has sent in a LOAD of POKEs
for D.N.A. Warrior , Daley Thompson's Olympic Challenge ,
Dan Dare 1 : Pilot Of The Future ,
Dan Dare 2: Mekon's Revenge , Dandy ,
Danger , Dangerous Garden , Dark Castle ,
Day in the Life of Arnold, A , Dea Tenebrarum ,
Dead Ringer , Deadly Skeletons ,
Death Stalker , Death Star , Death Wake ,
Deep Strike , Defcom 1 ,
Deja Vu: The Remix , Demon's Revenge ,
Demonslair , Denizen , Desert Hawk ,
Desperado 2 , Destiny Mission , Diamond ,
Diamonds, The , Doctum , Dogfight 2187 ,
Dominator , Dr. Maddo , Dragonia ,
Dragon's Lair 1 , Drakkar and Dynasty Wars.
- Viktor also pointed out typos in a few existing POKEs, namely
the 128K version of Daley Thompson's Supertest, Dark Fusion,
Death Wish 3 and Deathscape
- Jim Langmead sent in maps for Egg, The and Gyroscope 1
- Alessandro Grussu sent in his complete solution to Inferno
- El Duderino sent in some tips for Winged Warlords
- Added a map for Spiky Harold by Carlos DR
- Added Zdenek Nikl's map for Planet of Shades
Tuesday 09 December 2003
Maps, POKEs, a solution, and an updated search script
- Pavel Plíva sent in a POKE for Mortal Kombat
- Bad Beard sent in a complete solution and bug find for
Axe of Kolt, The, as well as POKEs for
Striker, Double, The
- Jim Langmead sent in maps for Crazy Castles,
Mutant Monty, Pi There! and
Pimeval Man
- Added a map for Where Time Stood Still by Paul DUnn.
- Added maps for Back to Skool, Skool Daze and Xeno by
Andy Herbert
- I've been dabbling with Perl, so I've had a go at updating
Nick's search script. You can now specify what type of game hint you
want to search for. The script is backwards compatible, so everyone
linking externally should still work.
You can now, however, add the parameter ?searchtype= followed
by cheat (cheat modes), bug (Game Bugs), map (Maps),
poke (Multiface POKEs), tip (Tips), hack (Type-in hacks),
partsol (Partial solutions) or sol (Complete solutions).
If you don't include this extra parameter, it will simply
search for all types of hint for the game you specify.
I also tweaked the script so the divider lines are Tipshop colour
(you mean orange? Ed), meaning the hyperlink in the Multiface sections
divider should be a lot more visible.

Big tidy up, some maps, and some tips
Friday 14 November 2003
Crash 1988, some HAYLP replies, and some maintenance
- I've FINALLY found enough time to do the big update I've mentioned.
Namely, all of the Playing Tips and Sign Stumps tips, cheats, hacks
etc from Crash 1988.. Too many (349) to mention individually..
- BadBeard sent in a SUPERB detailed explanation to cheating at
Football Director (which should also form the basis for cheating
at Football Director 2) on a couple of different emulators. This
was in response to queries on the HAYLP section.
- As requested, I've added the dates the HAYLP requests were sent to
us. Most of them are fairly old because they got stuck in email limbo
for a long time. Also, I didn't have anywhere to put them before I
wrote the HAYLP section!
- I've (hopfeully) fixed the bug in my Tipshop updater program which
generated a comp.sys.sinclair post with the same info twice. As the
only way I'll really know if this has worked is to try it, I have my
fingers tightly crossed!

Maps a go-go, and other good stuff
- Fixed one of the maps for Sweevo's World - it was actually for Riddler's Den. Thanks to
everyone who confirmed this.
- Renamed the entry for Tank Zone, which is just a hacked translation of Combat Zone, 3D. I also
re-hacked it while I was at it, as it wasn't a very good way of getting infinite lives.

- Added the YS map for Mountains Of Ket, which I had scanned while OCRing the YS Adventures section.

- On a non-tips related fix, cured a little bug in my generator program which resulted in
links to WOS being hyperlinked as Martijn van der Heide (oops)
Saturday 06 September 2003
A BIG update, reproductions, HAYLP replies and an oops-I-should-have-done-this-ages-ago!
- I may have mentioned to some of you that I was working on a BIG Tipshop update. Well, I
(in my opinion) wasn't kidding. Thanks to my partner in crime, Nick Humphries OCRing about 50 issues
of the YS Adventures column, I was able to do the rest and I'm now VERY pleased (and relieved!) to
present pretty much every single hint, tip, bug report, cheat and solution published in Your
Sinclair's Adventures section. There are 743 new entries from this.. I'm not going to list them all :-)
If anyone notices anything that's been missed, let us know!
- Paul Equinox Collins granted us permission to reproduce his tips and maps page for XOR.
Our thanks to him for allowing us to do this.
- Corrected the link in the Credits section for Jim Grimwood's homepage (sorry!)
- Alex Waddington sent us scans of a newsletter containing tips for Sorderon's Shadow.
I OCRd them to make life easier for everyone, but I've also included a link to the original
scans.
- Pete Carass sent us some hints and a bug (that could be used as a cheat) he found for Laser Squad
- A little bit of maintenance - Conquestador is just an english translation of
Tres Luces De Glaurung, Las, so I've modified the entries for both games to suit.
- Colin Attle became the first person to reply to someone needing assistance in our
HAYLP section. Bravo, sir!
Sunday 24 August 2003

to having a play with as soon as I get some time)

Friday 25 July 2003
A busy month - reproductions, maps, lots of POKEs and a new section on Tipshop
- Just to be perverse, I'll tell you about the new section on Tipshop first.
We've had quite a few emails from people asking for help with games. Some we were
able to answer, some not. So, after some thought (and writing a VB app to make it
a little easier to maintain!), we've launched the HAYLP section. As you might have
gathered by now, it's a section where you can have your game problems posted for
others to see, and help with. Eh? Dr Berkmann? Who he? (cough). All I ask is that
if you're submitting a problem, that you include a VALID email address. This
address will NEVER be posted on Tipshop, but I'll forward any replies onto you
myself. The solutions will then be added to Tipshop's main database, and your plea
removed. Sounds good, eh? Only if people contribute....
- We had been sent emails asking for help on Adventure games we had nothing
for. Fortunately, the ever-helpful Dorothy Millard was able to provide the
goods from her own website, http://members.optusnet.com.au/dmillard/index.htm. So there are now new solutions to Woods Of Winter, Manor Of Doom, The and
Going Critical. Our sincere thanks, as always, go to Dorothy for her superb help.

Technical problems, backlogs, reproductions. Oh, and Crash 1985
- Another year of Crash has been done! I've OCRd and converted the whole of Playing Tips
and Adventures section from Crash 1985 (issues 12-23). There are FAR too many new
entries from this to indiviually list here, so you'll just have to trust me.
- Due to a slight technical hiccup here at The Tipshop, an awful lot of emails
were stuck in limbo for a while. I thought people just weren't talking to us, but
it seems not. Nick, the technical bod that he is, was the one who noticed and
fixed the problem..
- Following on from that, I've now corrected several typos which people emailed
to us. So thanks to Eq for the further correction to the level codes in Earth Shaker;

Got busy with the scanner with a couple of issues of YS and 2 booklets from Sinclair User (Good Map Guide, and Kamikaze's Total Combat Guide). If anyone can tell me who did these maps originally, I'd be grateful. SU seem to have the habit of not crediting their tipsters - something which would SERIOUSLY cheese me off!
- Updated the existing maps for Avenger , The Colour of Magic , Count Duckula 1 , Fairlight 2: A Trail of Darkness , Lords of Midnight , Monty on the Run and Way of the Exploding Fist 2: The Legend Continues
- Scanned new maps for Basil the Great Mouse Detective , Cobra, Dizzy 3: Fantasy World Dizzy, Druid 2: Enlightenment , Flying Shark , Gauntlet 1 , Gregory Loses His Clock , Jack the Nipper 2: In Coconut Capers , Knightmare, Shark, They Stole a Million, Thundercats, Trantor: The Last Stormtrooper, Trapdoor 2: Through the Trapdoor and Yogi Bear.

The first update page
People have asked for it, so here it is, courtesy of a small Visual Basic app to hopefully make it a bit easier to maintain. This page will (hopefully) list the 10 most recent updates to The Tipshop.
- Started this updates page
- Modified entries for Joe Blade 4, after it was found to be a cracked copy of Prison Riot. Paul Griffith was set to write the game, but never actually finished it. Thanks to Martijn van der Heide for this information.
- Removed the surname for one of the tipsters at their request. And, no, I'm not saying who :-)
- Corrected the sources and contributors for maps for Avenger , Colour Of Magic , Fairlight 2: A Trail Of Darkness , Way of the Exploding Fist 2
- Added tips for Ace 1 , Ah Diddums and Arctic Fox from Aleksandar Lukic
